CITRIS FUNDING

CITRIS' funding comes from a combination of sources: state funds, industrial gifts, and UC campus funds. CITRIS spends approximately 28% of its budget on operations, and 72% on research including seed money for innovative projects. CITRIS has provided funding for research in the areas of distance learning, digital libraries and data mining, experimental social sciences laboratory, nutrition, video conferencing, and deployment of sensors.

CITRIS has greatly benefited from the generous donations, both cash and in-kind, from its Founding Corporate Members and other industry partners. CITRIS and its industry partners have jointly provided funds that support a broad range of research projects and student activities. Some of these projects include distance learning, development of a telemersive laboratory, information management systems, SAGE Scholar's Program, Center for Underrepresented Engineering Students, academic and industrial conferences, and the International Computer Science Institute.

CITRIS has used its UCB campus funds to provide competitive awards and fellowships for 4 masters and 4 doctoral students in the departments of Energy and Resources, Information Management & Systems, Business Administration, and Political Science.

CITRIS MATCHING

During its first four years of existence, CITRIS was required to meet 2/1 matching for the $100 million in capital funds it received from the State of California. The capital funds are being used to build a CITRIS Headquarters Building on the UC Berkeley campus and (now completed) one floor of the new engineering building on the UC Santa Cruz campus. CITRIS met its match as its investigators have received numerous funds in support of federally sponsored, or industry sponsored research, and in addition, CITRIS benefits from donors supporting our capital campaign.
