The capacities of health care systems everywhere are strained due to demographic shifts, consumer trends, demand, labor force productivity and increasing costs. Fundamental and applied research in science and engineering, including telemedicine and clinical tools, can improve clinical care and its delivery.

In Malaysia around 40,000 people suffer from stroke every year. At least one-fourth of stroke survivors experience aphasia, a communication impairment that varies considerably across patients but most involves some form of deficit in language comprehension.
